If I had my own world…

everything would be how I see it, and that's how it is

Version 3.0…. or 4.0?

Another day, another try at the brass ring.

I keep this blog alive, hoping that one day I am able to make something of it. Why? I’m not too sure. Maybe I feel like I need to have one. Like somehow it would be against my nature to not. Or it could be a result of my education. Everyone in my field has a blog so I should too right?

Why Can’t I Blog?

leave a comment »

Consistency is a problem here. Would you agree? For some reason I go through peaks and valleys of motivation to stay active on this. I think I need to refocus on something. I need direction, but what? My life? My work? Marketing? My interests? Questions, questions, so many questions…

Well what am I “qualified” to write about?

  1. There is myself? I know me pretty well I suppose, and I’m usually at least 60% alert to what I’m doing on a daily basis.
  2. Movies? I watch a lot but I’m not expert
  3. Marketing? I studied it, I do it. I’ve worked for a PR agency, as a social media community manager, in sales and social marketing… but who isn’t blogging about at least one of those things?
  4. Music? Love it, make it, live it
  5. Soccer? aka football, real football, the kind that actually uses your feet, not like North American “throw ball”. Maybe once the MLS season kicks off again and I’m back to BC Place for every Whitecaps game I could keep something going. Or I could write about my mighty Liverpool FC (YNWA!).

Options, options, options. And therein lies the problem. I don’t know where I want to go, so how can I go about getting there. Direction must be found. Blog revitalization to follow…

Or I’ll go back to my usual ramblings again. Either/or.

There’s always room for Cell-o

leave a comment »

This is a strange one, I can admit that. I’ve noticed that some instruments simply cannot break away from a genre (slide guitar for example – you put that in anything and it’s coming out country). Then there are the “usuals”, you know those go-to instruments like drum, bass and guitar that you can find a way to fit into pretty much anything you do. Then you get those instruments that just work as they are, no matter what genre, what they accompany, you play them as they were meant to be played and they just work. And it is on that note that I give you – the cello!

Told you this was a strange one. You’re probably thinking to yourself – “what do you mean a cello just works? Sure it is a great classical instrument and all that but tell me more!” Well your wish is granted! Let’s look at the evidence shall we?

Live at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut

leave a comment »

Unearthing that forgotten travel blog post yesterday has made me all nostalgic for my time living in Glasgow. It was one heck of a time – good people, good friends, good scotch.

Little known fact (or maybe widely known I’m not too sure) about me – I love, LOVE, L-O-V-E music. Especially the live kind. Find me a dive with a band and I’m set for the night. So while in Glasgow we (myself, my buddies Mirko, James and Andrea) hit the town with some fine Scots and found ourselves at the famous, and quite possibly infamous, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut – the place who discovered the dueling Gallagher brothers and brought Oasis to the world. Or at least that’s how the story goes.

The forgotten blog post

leave a comment »

I was cleaning up my hard drive last night and I came across a forgotten blog post from 2009 and my first attempt at blogging. I was about to live abroad for an internship and what was supposed to become a travel blog became, well nothing. Since I’ve managed to unearth the post, I figure what the heck, why not post it finally. Took a little liberty in editing out the girlfriend’s name but other than that it exists as it did in 2009, as I flew away to Glasgow.

Fair warning to you, it’s a long one.

Time to get out of dodge and go to Disney

leave a comment »

How’s that Cheers theme song go? “Sometimes you want to go – where everybody knows your name” Well going where everybody knows you is great and all, but I say forget going where everybody knows your name and get the f out of dodge. There are times when it’s just better to be a nameless face in the crowd, especially when all you want to do is disappear into the ether and leave all responsibility behind. It’s been an interesting year for us – us being myself and my lovely better half – all kinds of drama and frustration have quite simply bogged us down into a state of utter exhaustion. The solution, get out-of-town, think about nothing and recharge.

After much thought and hmm’ing we narrowed it down to three possible locations:

King Kong 360 makes you want to scream

leave a comment »

Since I’m heading off to LA in the morning this seems like a timely little post. Came across this today on Twitter (shoutout to @AdFreak and @SFUSMA for circulating it my way) – Universal Studios Hollywood’s new spot for the King Kong 360 3D ride.

Will definitely have to swing by and see if the scream really does linger…
